A new small not-for-profit press, based in London and Prague

Go Together Press is a new small not-for-profit press, based in London and Prague. It exists to publish emergent, nationally known and internationally renowned writers and artists in limited editions, often collecting work previously unavailable in book form. It will also reprint titles of enduring value that have become unavailable in its Phoenix imprint.

The Story of Violet

Its first title, published in November 2007 is The Story of Violet, by Tereza Stehlíková (40pp, fully colour illustrated through out, bi-lingual (English-Czech), 198 Crowns, 9 Euros, £5.99.

Often Violet asks herself, “how can it be so beautiful here? Why are all the colours more intense than in the world at home? Why can’t it be the other way round? Why does it feel more real here than in the real world?”

A beautifully written and illustrated tale that recognises the dreams and longing of children – and adults – of all ages, The Story of Violet speaks with a timeless insight into the mystery and wonder of the world. It marks the debut of a striking and singular talent.

“Ineffably beautiful.” Sukhdev Sandhu (see Under the Linden participants.)

“A sweet tale about a dissatisfied young girl who learns through her dreams that imagination is the key to happiness. Very prettily illustrated.” Lisa Mullen, Time Out London

Railtracks launch at Under the Linden
Its latest publication, to be launched during Under the Linden, is Rail Tracks by John Berger and Anne Michaels. Never before published, it is a unique collaboration between two international writers of remarkable achievement, and offers a threaded reflection on the atmospherics and allure of the train, with its attendant stories of love, longing, labour and migration. Developing out of a 2005 collaboration with theatre company Complicite on a unique, site-specific performance, Vanishing Points for the Gymnasium, King’s Cross, London, it is an intimate, sensual, exploratory and insightful meditation on place and time, journeys and arrivals. It will be available in several editions internationally from September, fully illustrated with the photography of Tereza Stehlíková.

Artesian
magazine
The house magazine of the Go Together Press is Artesian, to be published twice a year in an edition of 500 numbered copies. Serving in its summer issues as the extended programme of Under the Linden, it will both celebrate work in all areas of human endeavour that serve the philosophies expressed elsewhere on this site, while also marking the qualities of creative resistance necessary to search for alternatives to the present, destructive, alienating and injust dominant order. It will select its content with a ‘joyful, optimistic realism.’

Its first issue will include original contributions from the guest participants of Under the Linden, alongside exclusive material by artist film-maker Andrew Kötting, writer Timothy O’Grady and articles on music and the river, the spiritual geology of place, tunnels and the imagination, Prague ’68, Ballooning and Stained Glass.

Artesian
will be available internationally from September at selected outlets across Europe. Please get in touch if you would like to submit article proposals.
